Face Lift Treatment Alternatives
At the time our patient presented in our office, she felt older than her actual age and had planned to undergo cosmetic dentistry and plastic surgery. After consulting with Dr. Muslin, the patient chose to complete the dentistry first.
She had been treated by other dentists in the past, undergoing orthodontics and even had some crown work. A more detailed view of this closeup photo can be seen further down the page. In this photo the significant wear and uneven contours of her biting surfaces are evident.
Lifting the Bite
Normal wear and tear on teeth usually cause shifts in bite and occlusion... and if not monitored can lead to tmj/tmd problems, migraine headaches, etc. In the before photo the patient's mouth and smile is beginning to collapse due to her worn down teeth.
Dr. Muslin's treatment plan included "raising" the bite that would have the net effect of restoring normal bite and occlusion and also creating a dental facelift.
Custom fabricated crowns and other reconstructive materials were used to recreate the normal biting surfaces and height of her bite. To further assure accuracy, Dr. Muslin used CATScan technology to monitor certain tmj issues during treatment.
Normal Bite - New Smile Support
The final photo shows off the fuller new smile. The patient's lips are fuller and now expose more of her smile. The bite lift (also called vertical dimension) consisted of adding about a half-inch of height to her smile. Her smile no longer has the sunken appearance and now provides support for a very broad smile.
Makeover Dentistry Outcome
The patient's daughter reported she looked 20 years younger. Our patient took detailed pictures of her dental procedures to her plastic surgeon for review. The cosmetic plastic surgery she had once planned for was cancelled.
